Welcome to 2016...
Welcome, nau mai haere mai to Te Kowhai Pod for the learning spaces of Whaea Jeannie, Joan, Lisa, Lyn & Matua Neville. We meet in our home / whānau room each morning at 0900 to start the day and to reflect on our learning at the end of the day. We are very excited that our flexible learning spaces have 3-4 teachers connecting with our low numbers so that every child’s talents, skills and learner capabilities can be developed.
For new entrants the monitoring of student progress is immediate with a formal assessment at six weeks and again at six months. New enrolments are also assessed so that we can establish and respond to your child’s learning needs quickly.
In Te Kowhai Pod, we invite parents to discuss progress and give techniques to help your children on their learning journey. Caregivers, parents & whānau of all Te Kowhai students are invited to workshops to upskill to better support their tamariki at home. The Reading Together workshops are still run by Jeannie Apthorp to show parents how best to help their child’s literacy progress.
We encourage and expect parents to actively be part of the Te Kowhai pod supporting the well being / hauora of the learning and achievement of our students. Please feel free to participate in sporting, cultural and artistic events that involve your child. You are great resources and experts in the community.
Our tamariki have a dedicated play area including a sandpit and playhouse off Room 9, along with more challenging playground equipment around the school grounds.
Our new cycle track will provide cycling opportunities for our children to upskill at break-times.
